About Us

Us is Michael J. Belcher, otherwise known as "Doc". I am a psychologist, nursing home administrator, and business operator. I have been in private practice for over 31+ years, have operated nursing homes, group homes, residential facilities, and assisted living facilities for over 25 years, all of which specialized in long term care for the chronically mentally ill. I continue to operate four such facilities in Ohio. Several years ago, I began operating a website store selling harmonicas and accessories, which is a now a high ranked (by Google) website called HarpDepot.com, and have developed, or in process of development, of ten websites.

I received my B.A. and M.A. in psychology and sociology, in 1969 and 1971 respectively, at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. I received my Ph.D. in psychology in 1973 at Illinois Institute of Psychology in Chicago, Illinois. I received my Graduate Certification in Jewish Communal Services from Hebrew Union College in 1974, and an M.B.A. from the University of Dayton in 1982.

I have had an abiding interest in the topic of loneliness throughout my academic and professional career. Loneliness was the topic of both my M.A. Thesis and my Ph.D. Dissertation. Subseqently, I completed a manuscript of a book on loneliness, had an offer of publication, but decided not to procede with publication because I was not happy with my manuscript. I assumed that I would rewrite it and publish within a couple of years. Thirty-two years later, I still had not completed the manuscript as intended.

I turned my hobby of harmonica playing into a website business in 2004.
