Why Loneliness?

Over the years, I have learned a lot about loneliness from my patients, who are generally chronically mentally ill. Loneliness is a subjective feeling with which most of my patients are intimately familiar. The concept is quick and easy to teach, and many of my patients could quickly understand the concept and use it therapeutically. My conclusion is that loneliness, as a feeling and as a concept, afford therapists a very useful tool for treatment. Unfortunately, most therapists are unfamiliar with the concept of loneliness, even though they may be very familiar with the experience. This website is an effort to offer this concept of loneliness to all patients and therapists, past and future.
